Since 2011, all the islands of the Caribbean have been regularly invaded by sargasses. They wash up on our beaches and rot. Fortunately, in Saint Barth, there is St Barth Beach Cleaner, among other things, which cleans beaches and eliminates sargasses.

But it must be recognized that for years, everyone has been looking for a solution to this recurring problem. Many have tried to find a use for this raw material. And so far, we have to be honest, no one has obviously found a solution.

Oh well, no, for a few months now, Pierre Antoine has told us that « living in Saint Barth for 7 years, he has been able to realize the negative ecological and economic impact that sargasso, these algae that wash up in large quantities on our beaches destroying fauna and flora, also with harmful effects on our health. Thus, he started working on a manufacturing process to transform these algae into 100% processed paper and cardboard. Several tests have been carried out, the results are very encouraging, with a strong development potential.

To go further, he needs to approach a chemist to validate the final formulation, so that the product meets all standards, especially for health and the environment.

Today, his trade secret is carefully guarded and he has filed a manufacturing patent. He is looking for funding. He is confident that he will soon develop his laboratory in Saint Barth and transform the sargasses that pollute our beaches into paper or cardboard bags.

A little genius in Saint Barth, that’s good, we love it and we wanted to share the information with you.

About Author

Monique Turbé grew up in a family of five children. Before becoming a respected hotelier, her father, Guy Turbé, was one of the first contractors on the Island. At the age of 18, Monique Turbé started her first construction, like her father, the “White Sand Beach Cottages, in Flamands. This property attracted prestigious guests, like Jackie Kennedy-Onassis and her son John-John, or Roman Polanski. In 2013, the Villa Mélissa was sold to a Venezuelan couple that fell in love with the property. Monique then decided to buy and renovate a new property that she called like her granddaughter: the “Villa Lenalee”. With this new property, Monique Turbé, created MY VILLA IN ST- BARTH, an exclusive concierge service dedicated to her two private villas. One of Guy Turbé’s last dreams was to see Monique create her own real estate company to look after the villas he had built and carry on the legacy. As an homage to her beloved father, she became the founder, chairman and partner of MY VILLA IN ST BARTH Real Estate, the first real estate agency founded by a St-Barths native and a villas owner.
